Ireland’s Woodland Show, celebrating the benefits of Irish trees and woodlands, is coming to the beautiful Kilkea Castle, Castledermot, Co. Kildare on Saturday and Sunday, October 4 and 5.
There will be a warm welcome at the Teagasc stand, which will feature exhibits and information covering both advisory and applied research on our trees and forests. Tom Houlihan of the Teagasc Forestry Development Department tells us more about this exciting event, Ireland’s Woodland Show.
Celebrating all things great about our woodlands, Ireland’s Woodland Show, organised by the Irish Wood Producers, promises to be a valuable and informative experience. Located in the grounds of the magnificent Kilkea Castle, the show will have woodland talks, information stands, machinery and equipment displays , mobile saw demonstrations, exhibitions, artisan crafts, food stands and family activities. The Celtic Chainsaw Carvers are set work their magic in a headlining event. This will see national and international carvers creating some magnificent artistic pieces.
Teagasc forestry staff will be on hand to extend a welcome at our stand during Ireland’s Woodland Show. Learn about some of our applied research covering key forestry themes. Why not engage with our forestry advisors, who will be available to address all your forestry queries, be it on diverse forestry creation opportunities, ongoing forest management and available support schemes. It is also a great opportunity to find out about our upcoming Teagasc forestry advisory and training events.
Explore Forest Creation Options at Ireland’s Woodland Show
With the new tree planting season imminent, it is well worth investigating the attractive DAFM Forestry Programme which includes strong financial incentives for the variety of forest options available (called Forest Types), each with their own silvicultural, environmental and practical objectives. There are planting options suitable for all farms, regardless of enterprise or scale. These include native woodland, agroforestry (combining farming and trees in the same fields) and the more commercially focused conifer and broadleaf options. There are also attractive options for planting smaller areas under the new Native Tree Area (NTA) Scheme. This is a great opportunity to avail of comprehensive, objective and up-to-date information.
The Teagasc Stand will be well worth a visit during Ireland’s Woodland Show. We will be centrally located and look forward to meeting you over the two days of this exciting event!
