Visit the Forest and Energy Village at the Tullamore Show

The ever-popular Tullamore Show will again include the Forest and Energy Section, highlighting its innovations and its key players. Liam Kelly, Teagasc Forestry Advisor, based in Mullingar, tells us more.

The Show is now the largest one-day Agricultural show in Ireland with over 60,000 expected to attend this year on Sunday August 9th.

There are 24,200 private forest owners in Ireland and many more considering planting new forests with generous supports under the current Forestry Programme. It is therefore important that opportunities with this sector are highlighted at the show in Tullamore again this year.

The dedicated Forest and Energy Village has been a popular attraction in the show since 2005. Over that time, it has been coordinated annually by the Teagasc Forestry Development Department.

The Teagasc Forestry Development Department will again have our own stand within the Forest and Energy Section; all are welcome at stand no 441 on row W.

Teagasc forestry advisors will be on hand to discuss all aspects of forestry especially in relation to forest creation and the sustainable management of existing forests.

Teagasc forest research staff will also showcase the important applied research projects that are ongoing from ash dieback research to planning and managing our forests for climate resilience into the future. We invite all to engage with our interactive displays, information on the latest forestry supports and activities for children.

This year, twenty-one companies and organisations will be on hand to provide information and demonstrations at the dedicated Forest & Energy Section. Many have requested larger trade spaces than in previous years to display their diverse activities, products and services.

The forest sector will be strongly represented with companies from the afforestation, management, harvesting and forest products sectors. There has never been so many planting options and support for existing forests within the DAFM Forestry Programme 2023 – 2027, now is an ideal time for landowners to consider forestry as an attractive and complementary enterprise for suitable areas on their farms. The Forest and Energy Section will provide good opportunity to have all your forestry queries answered.

The renewable energy sector will also be well represented by companies from the biomass, renewable heating and solar energy sectors. Their presence highlights the interest in sustainable energy generation and utilisation.

The Tullamore Show is great day out for all the family and a visit to the Forest & Energy Village during the show is recommended! It is located on Rows W & X (close to the yellow catering village) in the main Trade Area of the Tullamore Showground. We very much look forward to meeting you on August 09!
