Teagasc launches Grass10 TV on YouTube to bring practical grassland advice to farmers

Teagasc has launched Grass10 TV, a new YouTube channel delivering practical videos on pasture management, advice, and adoption of new pasture technologies on Irish farms.

The channel aims to make evidence-based grazing advice readily accessible to farmers, farm advisors, and students, with research and farmer case studies and guides for implementing best practice at farm level.

Grass10 TV will publish monthly videos during the main grazing season. The first video launched this week is on the red clover silage in both drystock and dairy systems. Incorporating red clover in silage swards reduces chemical Nitrogen (N) input and has benefits on animal performance. In the video Peter Doyle, Teagasc Beef researcher, discusses how red clover silage is managed in the Grange system and Sinead Kearney, Teagasc Walsh scholar,  discusses her research on red clover varieties and her findings on fertiliser management in red clover silage.

“Measuring and managing grass is the quickest route to more profit on Irish livestock farms,” said John Maher, Manager of the Teagasc Grass10 programme. “Grass10 TV gives farmers practical, bite-sized guidance they can use straight away. Everything from taking a simple grass cover measurement to implementing red clover in our silage swards. Our aim is to make good grassland decisions straightforward and replicable, whether you are a new entrant or an experienced farmer.”

“Grass is the primary feed for our dairy herds and getting the timing and management right has a direct impact on milk solids and margins,” said Joe Patton, Head of Dairy Knowledge Transfer in Teagasc. “On Grass10 TV we will show real examples of how small changes in grazing management translate into better cow performance and profitability. It is a practical resource that supports the day-to-day decisions of farmers.”

Clodagh Bolger, Grass10 Digital Media Coordinator with Teagasc, said: “This channel is part of a wider digital approach to put concise, evidence-based advice where farmers are already consuming content, on their phones and tablets. Episodes are designed to be clear, engaging, and easy to share.”

Grass10 TV will be available through the Grass10 YouTube channel. Farmers and advisors are encouraged to subscribe to receive notifications about new episodes and live events.
