Teagasc publish 2025 Annual Report and Financial Statements
Total Teagasc income in 2025 was €248 million, which was €8 million (3.3%) higher than in 2024. Total Teagasc expenditure in 2025 was €249 million which was €3 million (1.2%) greater than in 2024.
Teagasc invested €14.9 million in fixed assets in 2025 including €12.4 million on buildings and €2.5 million on plant and equipment.
There was an increase of 13 in the average number of staff employed, and with general public sector pay increases the 2025 pay bill of €115 million was €6 million more than in 2024. Superannuation costs increased by €2.258 million to €49.861 million in 2025.
Teagasc Director, Professor Frank O Mara said; “The focus of our activities is guided by our 2025-2028 Statement of Strategy, ‘Innovating for Impact’. Improving the competitiveness and resilience of the agri-food sector is our strategic focus and we will work to support the sector to be more productive, more environmentally sustainable, more attractive and more innovative.”
The Teagasc Advisory Service provided support to all farmers and had contracts with 42,520 farmer clients. The role-out of the Advisory Strategy continued and the updated advisory role structure has now been introduced across seven of our 13 Advisory Regions.
Advisors assisted farmers with income support schemes, supporting 39,554 farmers with BISS applications, part of a total of 146,420 scheme interventions on behalf of clients. In total, there were 142,834 one-to-one advisory contacts in 2025.
Teagasc had 3,638 learners who received a QQI award in 2025 and these students are important for the future of the agriculture sector. A highlight of the year was 47 apprenticeship completions, representing the first completion of this stream. In addition to Teagasc courses, 1,375 students in third level institutions were supported in our colleges. The Teagasc education programmes are based on a strong foundation of practical, science-based training and we continued to invest in our facilities to ensure we can deliver this to a high standard.
The Teagasc Education Strategy 2025-2030 was approved by the Authority in April 2025. It outlines a comprehensive approach to ensuring that Teagasc continues to play a pivotal role in supporting the development of a sustainable, innovative and resilient agri-food sector. Significant work was carried out in 2025 to implement the 19 Actions in the Strategy such as curriculum revalidation and the development of an admissions policy.
The total number of peer-reviewed scientific papers published by Teagasc researchers in 2025 was 653, an increase of 23 on 2024. The strong international and national reputation of Teagasc research is demonstrated by the fact that in the years 2020 to 2025, 60.8% of Teagasc peer-reviewed articles listed international collaborators, with a further 34.8% listing national collaborators.
The Teagasc Walsh Scholars Programme is one of the most important post-graduate education programmes in the country, and it makes a very significant contribution to building capacity for the agri-food sector. At the end of 2025, there were 247 active scholars across 26 higher education institutions in Ireland and internationally. Expenditure on the programme increased from €6.9 million in 2024 to €7.7 million in 2025. The scholars are from 43 countries across five continents and 13% were registered for their degrees in international universities.
