Umar Amjid is a Walsh Scholar at Teagasc Moorepark and affiliated researcher at the Department of Microbiology, University College Cork.
His research specialises in food microbiome analysis, microbial genomics, metagenomics, bioinformatics, and evolutionary microbiology. He investigates the diversity, evolution, and adaptation of food-associated microorganisms using large-scale microbiome datasets, including the curated Food Metagenomics Database (cFMD), as part of the DOMINO EU project. His work aims to advance food safety, food security, microbial ecology, comparative genomics, and the development of clear road map for industrial applications through data-driven microbiome research.
