There are many good reasons to give seed‑sowing a try:

• Cost: seed packets are much cheaper than buying finished plants.
• Choice: a far wider range of varieties – including heritage and specialty types – not stocked by garden centres.
• Flexibility: you can plan timing, colour mixes and plant sizes to suit your garden.
• Ease: simple methods such as direct sowing (“throw and grow”) work well for many species and are ideal for low‑effort planting.
