The Agricultural Catchments Programme (ACP) was initiated in 2008 and is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. It operates across six small, intensively farmed agricultural catchments, each approximately 10km² in area. The programme collaborates with over 300 farmers to provide a scientific basis for measures in Ireland’s Nitrates Action Programme (NAP). Ireland’s NAP applies the European Commission’s Nitrates Directive, which aims to prevent water pollution from agricultural sources.
