The Newford herd comprises 90 predominantly Angus cross Friesian cows. All breeding heifers produce their first calf at 24 months of age. Progeny are managed so that cattle are fit for slaughter and meet market specifications between 18 and 22 months of age, ensuring optimal animal performance and alignment with market and sustainability objectives. A separate finishing unit operates on site and is independent of the suckler demonstration farm showcased today.

The farm has availed of funding through the Farming for Water EIP, enabling the implementation of a range of initiatives aimed at improving water quality. These include the management of surface rainwater flows on roadways and the use of settlement tanks to capture and segregate wastewater from the farmyard, supporting best practice in environmental protection.

Newford joined the Future Beef Programme in 2022, strengthening its role as a platform for sharing best practice and proven technologies that support profitable and sustainable suckler beef production.
