Decisions around ending the breeding season

The primary reason for shortening the breeding season is to tighten up the following calving season. This is to increase profitability and simplify work load during the coming year. Herds with a very spread out calving pattern generally can’t afford not to milk over the coming winter. Such patterns are higher cost and lower profit systems of milk production. Dairy specialists George Ramsbottom and Joe Patton in a series of videos have information on the economics and advice on the steps to take to correct the calving pattern.
