Jack Jameson

Research Officer – Crop Agronomy

Research Interests

I am a Research Officer in crop agronomy at the Crops Research Centre at Teagasc Oak Park. My research aims to improve the sustainability, resilience and productivity of Irish cropping systems by developing and validating agronomy practices for Irish growers. I lead a team in applied research that integrates plot and field scale experimentation and modelling to optimise whole‑farm and crop‑level performance while reducing impacts on the environment. A key part of my role is translating science into actionable guidance for farmers, advisers and policy makers. My research areas of interest include:

  • Crop establishment/tillage/cultivation systems
  • Crop rotations
  • Agronomy of cereals, oilseeds, legumes
  • Soil health including soil organic carbon dynamics
  • Conservation/regenerative agriculture and associated practices
  • Adding value to agricultural outputs
  • Mechanisation/Machinery

Current Projects

  • Sustainable Barley Agronomy – optimising the agronomy of spring barley in non-plough crop establishment systems
  • Knockbeg Long-term Experiment – Establishment system and crop rotation experiment established in 2001
  • Sleaty Farm Systems Platform – Assessing the impact of different management systems on soil health, crop performance, economic performance and environmental outcomes at field scale.

Education

  • BAgrSc (2020) University College Dublin
  • PhD (2024) University College Dublin
