Visitors to Teagasc’s beef exhibit at the National Ploughing Championships will see first-hand how to breed a balanced suckler cow.
Featuring a display of two heifers of varying genetic merit, Teagasc Specialists and Advisors will be available to answer your key questions on what to look for within the Replacement Index to breed your next generation of suckler cows.

Elements such as carcass weight, daughter milk and daughter calving interval – the latter being an indicator of fertility – will be unravelled, all with the aim of breeding a balanced suckler cow.
Away from suckler breeding, Teagasc staff will also be on hand to inform farmers of the value of the Commercial Beef Value (CBV), a tool when used effectively provides an indication of an animal’s ability to perform under finishing systems.
