Teagasc offers a QQI Level 6 Climate Action training course focusing the on interaction between climate and agriculture and how farm technologies can help reduce emissions and enhance agricultural sustainability.

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is designed for agri-professionals in sales, advisory, training, and support roles, as well as farmers.

Course benefits

Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Understand Irish climate legislation and key targets for the sector
  • Identify key gasses (GHG’s & ammonia) emitted and sources of emissions
  • Establish farm carbon emissions and identify technologies to reduce emissions
  • Develop and implement a farm sustainability plan
  • Evaluate farm energy sources and their role in reducing farm emissions
  • Identify the role of biodiversity in improving farm sustainability
  • Water quality trends, targets and farm actions to reduce nutrient losses

Successful participants will achieve a QQI Level 6 component award in Sustainable Farming in the Environment (6N20463).

Course delivery

  • The course will be offered over 6 face-to-face contact days as follows:
    • 22nd & 23rd October – Johnstown Castle Research Centre
    • 4th & 5th November – Moorepark Research Centre
    • 26th & 27th November – Grange Research Centre
  • Course days will be a combination of lectures and field/farm visits
  • Practical application of learning will be assessed by assignments & short exams

Entry requirements

  • Participants must hold a suitable qualification in agriculture (e.g. Degree or Diploma in Ag. Sci.) or a Level 6 Certificate in Agriculture (or equivalent qualification) plus three years’ experience in a relevant agriculture related enterprise.
  • Participants that do not meet the above criteria will be appraised on an individual basis.

Course fee

This course is brought to you in partnership with Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board.  With 70% funding available to eligible participants, the reduced cost of the course is €350.

Cancellation and refund policy

  • 14 days or more before start date: Full refund of course fees.
  • 7–13 days before start date: 50% refund of course fees.
  • Less than 7 days before start date or after commencement: No refund.
  • If Teagasc cancels a course: 100% refund of course fees. Teagasc reserves the right to cancel if minimum attendance numbers are not met.
