Collaborative Research Project – Expression of Interest

What we do

Teagasc works with companies of all sizes to develop new products, processes and technologies through collaborative research. If you are exploring an innovation challenge or opportunity, we welcome expressions of interest to assess potential collaboration.

To help us assess how best to support your enquiry, please complete the short questionnaire.

A circular logo. The circular outline is made up of five different colours, From top to bottom; Dark green, lime green, yellow, orange and light brown. Inside the circular outline, is a handshake. Underneath the handshake there is text 'Engage @ Teagasc', followed underneath by 'Industry Collaboration, Entrepreneurship, commercialisation'.

Typical areas of collaboration include:

  • Development of new products or processes.
  • Applied research, validation and pilot-scale development.
  • Access to expertise, facilities and pilot-scale infrastructure.
  • Collaborative projects with public and/or industry funding.

To ensure successful collaboration, projects typically have the following characteristics:

  • Aligned with Teagasc’s research priorities and strategic objectives See Teagasc’s Statement of Strategy for more details.
  • Designed to generate robust, independent research outcomes, with scope for publication and in line with National Research integrity principles.
  • Supported by appropriate funding, with costs typically covered by the requesting organisation(s) and/or through co-funding mechanisms.
  • Where relevant, timelines  will account for regulatory and ethical approvals (e.g. animal studies) Depending on the availability or otherwise of the experimental animals/housing, there may be a considerable time period between set up and commencing the collaborative project.

Important considerations:

  • Teagasc does not act as a regulatory authority for the approval of fertilisers, plant protection products or other commercial products.
  • Standalone product testing is not a core service and is only undertaken in specific research contexts, subject to discussion and alignment with research objectives.

What happens next?

  • Initial internal review of your submission with the appropriate researcher(s).
  • Assessment of alignment with expertise and priorities.
  • Follow-up discussion (if appropriate) to explore scope, timelines and funding options.
  • Identification of suitable collaboration pathway (e.g. consultancy, collaborative research, funded project).

If you are unsure whether your idea fits within this scope, we still encourage you to submit an expression of interest. Thank you for your interest and submitting the background information via the questionnaire.  We aim to respond to all enquiries in a timely manner.
