Adult & Junior Entrants

Terms & Conditions

  • Commencing on 15 September 2026, the ‘Letting Trees Work for Us”’ competition will focus on three consecutive forest themes featured over the period of the competition
  • The adult category is open to those 18 years of age and older only
  • The junior entrant category is open to anyone under 18 years of age with the consent of a parent/guardian
  • Categories are:
    • Trees for Water
    • Trees and Forests on the Farm
    • Trees for Biodiversity
  • A parent or guardian must have provided consent on the entry form in the junior entrant category
  • The competition organisers will adhere to the Teagasc Child Safeguarding Policy
  • I understand that even if I agree to participate now, I can withdraw at any time by emailing the request to forestphotos@teagasc.ie . I acknowledge and understand that this will not apply to material already published as Teagasc cannot control such material.
  • In the case where third parties appear in the photograph in the entry, I confirm that I have received the consent of those third parties and take full responsibility for this consent.
  • I consent to the use of personal data including name and any personal data in the photograph entry, in Teagasc and the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM) publicity material and on social media.
  • Teagasc and DAFM reserve the right to display, reproduce or publish, or give permission to display, reproduce or publish any entry without payment for the purposes of future promotion and knowledge transfer. The personal data contained in the entries can be retained by Teagasc and DAFM indefinitely.
  • I understand that any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current Irish Data Protection legislation and will only be disclosed as specified above.
  • I confirm that I am not a professional photographer.
  • I give permission for, Teagasc and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), to use my photos I submit for promotional use, including but not limited to social media, websites, and other marketing material.

Submission of Photographs

  • Individual participants may submit one photo separately for each of the three forestry competition themes
  • The competition opens on 15 September 2026
  • Closing date for all category submission of entries is 5pm on 20 November 2026 – no further entries to the competition will be permitted
  • Winners will be announced in December 2026
  • Entries must be submitted in digital format only, using the online entry form
  • No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason
  • There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition

Prizes

The prizes are as follows:

Category Winners

  • There will be one winner of each category, for both adult and junior categories.
    • One adult entrant will receive a €300 One4All voucher for each category
    • One junior entrant will receive a €150 One4All voucher for each category

Overall Winners

  • Each category winner will go forward to the overall winner people’s choice award
  • The overall adult winner will receive an additional €300 One4All voucher
  • The overall junior winner will receive an additional €150 One4All voucher
  • The prizes are as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered
  • Teagasc will notify the winners regarding presentation of prizes

Rules of Entering

By entering this competition, entrants are indicating their agreement to be bound by the following terms and conditions:

  • The promoter is the Teagasc Forestry Development Department, whose registered office is at Athenry, Co. Galway. Prizes are sponsored and presented by DAFM, Kildare St., Dublin.
  • The competition is not open to professional photographers. A professional photographer is someone who earns a revenue from photography. You may be asked to confirm that you are not a professional photographer.
  • The competition is open to residents of the Republic of Ireland except for employees of Teagasc or DAFM, their close relatives and anyone involved in the judging of the competition
  • Entrants to this photo competition grant Teagasc and DAFM the further rights to publish and exhibit their photograph(s) in print, on their website or in any other media source as part of their advisory and promotional work in perpetuity. No fees will be paid for any of these uses.
  • Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current Irish data protection legislation
  • Photographs taken with a camera/phone are eligible. Images that are AI-generated or edited are not permitted.
  • Photo entry must be the entrant’s original work, must not be copied and must not infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of any other third party, regardless of country of residence. It is the entrant’s responsibility to clear all aspects of copyright prior to submission
  • Teagasc reserves the right to disqualify from the competition any entry that infringes on the copyright or other intellectual property rights of third parties and will not be responsible or in any way be liable for any violations of copyright or any other unauthorized use of photos
  • The promoter’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • Depending on the level of competition entry, Teagasc may display a selection of eligible competition photos on the forestry section of the Teagasc website.
  • Teagasc reserves the right not to publish or exhibit submitted images

Selection of Winning Entries

  • The competition will be judged by a Teagasc/DAFM selection panel and the judges’ decision is final; no negotiation will be entered into
  • A winning photo will be selected for each theme at the end of the eligible entry period and will go forward to the Grand Final to be announced in December 2026
  • The overall competition winners (one adult, one junior) will be selected and notified in December 2026 and the winning photos will be displayed on the Teagasc and DAFM websites and announced across relevant media channels
  • No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason
  • The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control
  • Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the promoter

Photograph Evaluation

 Photos will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Uniqueness to demonstrate the contribution or value addition of trees/ forests and wood use as appropriate
  • Clarity of image, as well as creativity and originality
  • That the image accurately reflects the theme chosen
  • Ability to communicate an impactful message under the relevant theme(s) selected
