Celebrating Ireland’s hedgerows

To celebrate National Hedgerow Week, Dr. Catherine Keena joins this episode of the Environment Edge to explain the difference between topped and treeline hedges.

Running from August 29 to 7 September, National Hedgerow Week aims to raise awareness about the importance of hedgerows for agriculture, biodiversity and climate.

Dr. Keena explained: “Hedgerow Week is really about promoting the importance of hedges in the Irish countryside. This year, Teagasc and the Heritage Council have joined together to spread the message because it is very much a message amoung farmers and the general public in the countryside because everyone is near a hedge and we want everyone to appreciate it.”
