Opportunities in organic farming to be showcased at BEEF2026

Are you interested in organic beef production? Then a visit to Teagasc’s flagship beef open day, BEEF2026, taking place on July 1 at Teagasc, Grange is most worthwhile.

The Teagasc organic team will have a significant presence at BEEF2026, showcasing the latest research, innovation and practical developments in organic farming. Visitors will hear about recent organic beef and lamb finishing trials under the GROfarmS organic research programme, receive an update on Teagasc’s flagship organic farm at Kildavin, Johnstown Castle, Co. Wexford, and learn about new European Innovation Partnerships (EIPs) and ongoing European networking projects.

GROfarmS Research Programme

GROfarmS is a Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) funded, Teagasc-led organic research programme. A key component of the programme is the evaluation of different organic beef and lamb finishing systems at the Grange and Athenry research centres.

Interim results from these trials will be presented at BEEF2026, providing organic farmers with practical insights to help them make informed decisions on the most appropriate finishing strategies for their own farms.

Another important element of the GROfarmS programme is the analysis of financial performance data from organic farms across a range of enterprises through the National Farm Survey. Visitors will gain firsthand insights into the financial performance of organic farms and the key factors underpinning their profitability.

OBLIG – Organic Beef and Lamb Innovation Group

OBLIG is a newly established European Innovation Partnership (EIP) that aims to address the challenges associated with the leakage of organic beef and lamb into the conventional supply chain. At BEEF2026, attendees will learn about the innovative approaches being developed by the OBLIG team to strengthen organic supply chains and improve market opportunities for organic producers.

OH-FINE – Organic Farming Innovations Network Europe

OH-FINE is an EU-funded, pan-European project that seeks to empower farmers and smallholders by making practical, science-based knowledge more accessible to support the transition to organic farming. Visitors will hear about the project’s progress to date and the key learnings emerging from collaboration and knowledge exchange across Europe.
