Teagasc Climate Action and Farm Sustainability Course open for enrollment

Farmers and agricultural professionals are invited to deepen their understanding of the relationship between climate and agriculture through Teagasc’s QQI Level 6 Course in Sustainable Farming in the Environment.

The course explores how farm technologies and management practices can reduce emissions and support more sustainable farming.

Developed in partnership with Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB), the programme returns following a fully booked course last year. The QQI Level 6 course starts on 15 October 2026 with six face-to-face training days which will combine classroom learning with field and farm visits.

The six training days will take place at three Teagasc research centres in 2026:

• 15 and 16 October – Johnstown Castle Research Centre, County Wexford
• 4 and 5 November – Moorepark Research Centre, County Cork
• 25 and 26 November – Grange Research Centre, County Meath

The training will examine sources of farm emissions and technologies to reduce them, with participants developing a farm sustainability plan using the online tool, AgNav. It will also explore how farm biodiversity and measures to improve water quality can support more sustainable farming. The emphasis is on applying research and practical knowledge while supporting farm productivity and profitability.

The course is designed for farmers, agricultural advisers, agri-business professionals, sales and technical support staff, and agricultural trainers and educators. Successful participants will receive the QQI Level 6 Component Award in Sustainable Farming in the Environment (6N20463).

Eligible participants can avail of 70% funding, reducing the course fee to €350. Applicants should hold a suitable agricultural degree, diploma or equivalent, or a Level 6 Certificate in Agriculture or equivalent with three years of relevant experience.
