Poultry
The poultry industry in Ireland is comprised of two separate sectors; poultry meat and egg production. These sectors comprise of laying hens, broilers, turkeys, ducks and geese. Each of the sectors can be then further divided by their varying intensity. Meat and eggs are produced under intensive and extensive systems. Eggs are produced for human consumption and hatching birds.
The poultry sector is densely populated in the Cavan Monaghan region, with another large portion in the Limerick and Cork area. The poultry sector accounts for 2% of agricultural output and supports approximately 6,000 jobs.
