Euro-Trials

Ornamental plant trials run to assess new variety introductions and suitability to local environmental conditions.

Teagasc have been running comparative plant quality trials since 2008. For each trial the same range are planted in eight other European countries as part of the Eurotrials network. The geographic range allows for the impacts of local climate on the varieties to be observed. The other participating countries are: France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Finland, Iceland and Austria. Plants are assessed throughout the growing season over a number of years and graded to highlight the best of the range grown.
