Project Title: Alignment of education planning and choices to longer term business and succession needs on dairy farms.
Description: The purpose of this study is to identify how dairy farm families make decisions regarding the education of their children and what level of alignment there is between these education decisions and the identification of a successor. The study will involve dairy farmers with young families who have begun to consider succession, stakeholders in the industry on succession and also students in agricultural colleges from both the Level 6 and the distance learning courses. There is a large knowledge gap concerning how farm families make decisions about their children’s education and career paths and this research hopes to develop recommendations and a framework to support Teagasc in future planning for the education of dairy farmers.
