Darragh Scully
Project Title: Overcoming Discipline Specific Research Data Management Challenges in Agri-Food Research
Biography: Darragh is researching the challenges agri-food scientists face in managing and sharing their research data. Good Research Data Management (RDM) helps ensure that research is accurate, transparent, and reusable. When data is well managed, it strengthens research integrity, supports collaboration, and increases the value of public research funding. However, many researchers in agri-food disciplines struggle to adopt RDM practices.
His research focuses on understanding these discipline-specific challenges among researchers in Ireland, Germany, and the Netherlands. The bigger picture of this research is open science and research integrity. This involves making sure publicly funded research delivers maximum value, supports collaboration, and accelerates scientific progress. By identifying practical challenges, Darragh’s research will help Teagasc design better supports and infrastructure so researchers can more easily manage, share, and reuse data.
With a background in Agricultural Systems Technology, Darragh has experience working with large agricultural datasets and understands the growing role of data in improving sustainability and innovation in agriculture. Growing up on a dairy, beef, and tillage farm, he brings practical insight as well as technical knowledge to his research.
