Silver Tukamushaba

Silver TukamushabaProject title

Evaluation of feed intake characteristics and associated biophysical, economic and environmental performance for alternative beef cattle genotypes.

Biography

Silver Tukamushaba is an experienced Animal Nutritionist with vast experience in animal husbandry and management. Silver previously worked with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO, Uganda), gaining valuable experience in livestock research.
His PhD research focuses on understanding how different beef cattle breeds use feed and how this affects their growth, cost of production, and impact on the environment.
By understanding how much and how efficiently cattle eat, Silver is exploring ways to improve farm productivity while reducing methane and nitrogen emissions, which are two major contributors to climate change and water pollution. The results of his research will also
inform breeders in selecting cattle that use less feeds while maintaining better growth performance, and have a lower environmental footprint. This work aims to help farmers adopt beef production systems that are both profitable and environmentally friendly.
Silver’s research supports the future of climate-smart and efficient beef farming by helping match the right animals to the right systems and feed resources, making beef cattle farming more productive and climate friendly.
Silver has excellent knowledge of data analysis software’s such as SPSS, R and is currently learning SAS to enhance his skills to work with large and complex datasets. He values clear communication and a practical approach to problem-solving, helping bridge the gap between research and real-world farming.
