Rabita ZamanRabita Zaman

Research Interest:

Rabita is a Plant Pathologists from Bangladesh, her research interest lies at the interface of plant pathology, virology, and sustainable agriculture.

At present, she is studying the occurrence of Oat Mosaic Virus (OMV) within Irish tillage-based systems. This includes the application of molecular diagnostics to OMV as well as utilizing soil DNA extraction techniques to detect its vector, Polymyxa graminis. Additionally, she is mapping the spatio-temporal distribution of OMV, along with investigating the relationship between OMV load and yield penalty as a measure of characterizing varietal resistance. This research is vital since OMV is a great menace to oat industry with potential yield losses of 50% and making lands unsuitable for future cultivation.

She is dedicated to addressing the knowledge gap in the management of Oat mosaic virus (OMV) and wants to develop applied research solutions that promote plant health, agronomic systems, and guide decisions for dealing with the economic impact of OMV on the Irish oat industry.

Education:

  • MSc in Plant Pathology from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh
  • BSc (Hons.) in Agriculture from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh
