Sharon Olanrewaju

Sharon OlanrewajuProject Title: Emulsion-based formulations containing newly-discovered bacteriocin producers as probiotics for treating bovine mastitis

Biography: Sharon is a PhD Scholar with Teagasc and University College Cork, where her research explores the use of probiotic-based emulsions to help prevent and manage bovine mastitis in dairy cattle. Her project investigates naturally occurring bacteria that can produce antimicrobial compounds to suppress harmful pathogens responsible for infection. By developing safe, effective, and sustainable probiotic alternatives, her work supports the wider goal of reducing antibiotic use in agriculture and strengthening animal health across the dairy industry.

Sharon graduated with a BSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and worked on the use of bacteriophages to control disease-causing bacteria in pigs during this undergraduate degree. This experience deepened her interest in biological methods for managing infectious diseases and inspired her current focus on microbe-driven therapies.

Originally from Cork City, Sharon enjoys reading and travelling when away from the lab.
