Mille Gould

Millie GouldProject Title: Carbon Farming – Co-Creation for Behavioural Change within a Supportive Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS)

Biography: Millie is a PhD researcher investigating Behavioural Change and Carbon Farming. Her research addresses a critical challenge in Irish agriculture: increasing the sustained adoption of carbon sequestration practices to meet national Net Zero targets.
Her work moves beyond studying farmers at the individual level, instead focusing on how the wider Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) can overcome powerful systemic barriers, such as policy uncertainty and low farmer trust. She aims to co-create practical, economically viable interventions with farmers that align economic incentives with climate resilience.
Millie brings a strong background in Social Sciences, specifically Politics and Public Policy, informing her analysis of structural barriers. She employs an innovative mixed-methods approach combining ethnographic fieldwork with the use of a Serious Game element to generate rich data on farmer decision-making and social dynamics.
She is based at Harper Adams University in Shropshire, England, and will be working at Teagasc, Ashtown, during the coming years of her programme. Beyond academia, she enjoys vegetarian and plant-based cooking, exploring the Great Outdoors, and is an avid player of board games.
