Bridget Craig
Project Title: Employment dynamics in Irish dairy farming: People, productivity and technology
Biography :Bridget is a PhD student at Teagasc Moorepark, working in generational renewal on Irish dairy farms. Before moving to Ireland, she completed a master’s degree in food systems from the University of Vermont through an assistantship with the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute, focusing on Northeastern dairy farmers’ adoption of alternative management practices. Through her master’s thesis research, she developed a focus on the unique positionality of Northeastern dairy farmers and the policies, social values, and community systems that support and constrain their work.
Using mixed-method and transdisciplinary skills developed through previous work, Bridget’s PhD thesis will pull together qualitative and quantitative data, historical context of labour issues in Ireland, and future employment goals to contribute to the collective understanding of generational renewal. Bridget will investigate the employer-employee dynamic, future labour requirements, and the role of technology in labour efficiency.
Outside of her research responsibilities, Bridget enjoys hiking, ceramics, and hosting dinner parties.
