Linnea Wennhage
Project title: Pre- and post-weaning feeding strategies to improve the health and welfare of dairy calves in pasture-based systems
Biography: Transitioning pre-weaned dairy calves from a milk-based diet to a pasture based diet is critical for
their future growth and development. Rearing well-grown heifers, which achieve their weight for age targets, will help ensure they are retained in the dairy herd, yielding both economic and environmental benefits.
Linnea aims to investigate the effect of different pre- and post-weaning feeding strategies on calf health, growth, welfare and development, including rumen development. Originally from Sweden, Linnea has a background in animal behaviour, welfare and biology. She is gaining experience in analysis of blood metabolites and rumen bacterial diversity.
