Molly-Mai O’Meara
Project Title: SCIP: Sound Cow Innovation Programme – Piloting and Evaluating a Structured Lameness Control Programme for Irish Dairy Herds
Biography: Molly-Mai is looking into the effectiveness of a system-specific lameness control programme in dairy cows. Lameness is a major health and welfare issue and is associated with significant pain, premature culling and reduced production. The project takes a structured, holistic approach to reducing lameness and will identify practical and behavioural barriers to farmer adoption through qualitative research. The research will use science-based, farmer-centered strategies, contributing to reducing lameness nationally.
Molly-Mai graduated from Agricultural Science in UCD in August and is gaining experience in qualitative data collection and analysis as well as production diseases and infection biology.
