Sanjin Blazinic
Project Title: Anomaly detection in animal performance data
Biography: Sanjin Blažinić is a Teagasc Walsh Scholar and PhD researcher University College Dublin, investigating how statistical methods can be used to identify unusual or unreliable records in livestock performance data.
Large volumes of animal data are collected through weighing, milk recording, sensors and other farm recording systems. These data are increasingly important for animal breeding, farm management and genetic evaluation, but errors, unusual measurements and inconsistent recording can reduce their reliability. Sanjin’s research focuses on developing methods that can distinguish genuinely unusual animals or biological events from records that may result from measurement or recording problems.
Improving the quality of livestock data can support more accurate breeding decisions, better identification of high-performing animals and more reliable research, ultimately contributing to more efficient and sustainable livestock production.
Sanjin has a background in genetics and is developing expertise in statistics, data analysis, and the interpretation of large biological datasets. His particular interest lies in combining biological understanding with statistical methods to solve practical problems in animal science.
