Sean O’Sullivan
Project title Tools to Assess and Monitor the Environmental Footprint of Irish Mushroom Production
Biography: Sean O’Sullivan is a Teagasc Walsh Scholar researching tools to assess and monitor the environmental footprint of Irish mushroom production. His work uses life cycle assessment, social life cycle assessment and life cycle costing to examine the environmental, social and economic impacts of mushroom production.
The research is particularly relevant as new technologies, including automated mushroom picking, are introduced to the sector. Understanding how these technologies affect sustainability, costs and working practices can help producers make informed decisions and support the development of a more efficient and environmentally responsible Irish mushroom industry.
Sean has experience growing speciality mushroom varieties. His work contributes to the wider goals of sustainable food production, resource efficiency and the future competitiveness of Ireland’s agri-food sector.
